Your Personal Injury Attorney Resource: Seattle, Bellevue, Everett, and Tacoma, Washington Area

Personal injury attorney Matt Menzer, and his colleagues have successfully helped hundreds of Seattle, Everett, Bellevue, and Tacoma, Washington-area clients obtain fair compensation for serious injuries due to accidents, trauma, and negligence. We understand that a severe personal injury can affect all aspects of a person's life, including employment, emotional well-being, quality of life, financial security, and family relationships. We believe that a complete and fair resolution of a personal injury case must include compensation for losses in all of these areas.

What Is a Personal Injury?

A personal injury is a physical, mental, or emotional injury to a person that results from someone's negligence or intentionally harmful act. There are many scenarios in which such negligence or harm may arise, resulting in a personal injury. Common causes of personal injury include the following:

What Types of Injury Are Considered a Personal Injury?

Our personal injury attorney team has helped many Seattle, Bellevue, Everett and Tacoma, Washington area clients obtain compensation for a wide range of serious injuries, including traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord damage and paralysis, loss of hearing and memory, severe burns, broken backs and ruptured discs, chronic pain syndrome, fractured or amputated limbs, and respiratory problems related to chemical exposure and mold.

A personal injury may or may not be apparent immediately after the accident or deliberate harm that caused it. Some injuries take time to manifest themselves. In addition, the connection between a wrongful action and the injuries, or an injury and its symptoms may not be obvious. If you are in doubt about the connection or causality between an incident or situation and the personal injury you have incurred, it's advisable to seek the counsel of an experienced personal injury attorney.

What Financial Compensation Can I Obtain in a Personal Injury Claim?

Personal injury victims are entitled to recover monetary damages for all losses and expenses they incur as a direct result of the negligent or intentional harm that caused the personal injury. The past and future damages may include the following:

  • Medical expenses
  • Lost wages, including overtime and other benefits
  • Loss of earning capacity
  • Pain and suffering
  • Physical disability
  • Mental disability
  • Emotional trauma
  • Disfigurement
  • Permanent scars
  • Loss of enjoyment of life
  • Loss of love, affection, and support of family members
  • Embarrassment and humiliation
  • Property damage
  • Out-of-pocket expenses (for example, transportation, medical appliances, house-cleaning and repairs, and yard maintenance)

A member of the Menzer Law Firm's personal injury attorney team can tell you more about potential financial compensation for injuries due to another's negligence or deliberate harm.

What Is a Contingency Fee?

A "contingency fee" is a fee arrangement used by many law firms, including the Menzer Law Firm, for different types of cases, including those involving personal injury and wrongful death. The fee is usually a percentage (usually between 33% to 40%) of the gross or total amount you, the plaintiff, receive as a settlement or award, and it's only charged if we successfully settle your case or represent you in court and you receive compensation for your losses.  The costs associated with the claim – for filing fees, copies of records, transcripts, expert fees, etc. – are usually advanced by the law firm and then the law firm is reimbursed separately for the costs advanced out of the settlement or jury award.

The details of this type of fee arrangement are contained in a written fee agreement to be signed by Matt Menzer and the client. These agreements are available for your review.

Is There a Deadline for Taking Legal Action Regarding a Personal Injury?

In Washington, as in all states, there are legal time limits that govern the period during which an injured party must file a personal injury lawsuit. Known as statutes of limitations, these statutory time limits or deadlines are generally one to three years from when the injury occurred.  It's best to contact a knowledgeable personal injury attorney such as those at the Menzer Law Firm as soon as possible after your injury so that the attorney can evaluate and begin working on your case well within the relevant statute of limitations.

If I Have a Personal Injury Claim Do I Have to Go to Court?

Most personal injury cases handled by Menzer Law Firm are settled out of court between opposing lawyers or directly with the insurance company. An out-of-court settlement can be a very satisfactory outcome of a personal injury case, in part because it avoids the time, expense, and emotional turmoil of a trial. Our highly experienced personal injury attorneys, serving the Seattle, Bellevue, Everett, and Tacoma, Washington areas, have obtained excellent settlements and court verdicts for our clients.

The majority of our cases settle prior to trial. However, the skilled lawyers at our law firm in Seattle are committed to taking a personal injury or other lawsuit to trial if the defendant or insurance company is unwilling to offer a fair and just settlement. The best results are achieved by demonstrating that we and our clients are willing, able, and (most importantly) prepared to go to trial whenever necessary. The Menzer Law Firm excels in this type of preparation for trial and aggressive representation of our clients.
